When GGR-UNIC moved to new premises in Oldham, company directors decided it was the perfect time to make some additional changes, most notably the way the business managed its environmental impact.

The company is one of Europe’s leading suppliers of cranes and specialist lifting equipment, as well as running a specialist design facility. This mix of services was creating several different waste streams, so the company called Environment Connect to find out what could be done.

As a result of a call to Environment Connect, the company has undertaken an environmental improvement programme to reduce waste and save energy. Volumes of packaging waste have been reduced and GGR-UNIC has teamed up with a company to recycle waste rubber. Waste disposal costs have been reduced, recycling rates increased and GGR-UNIC have introduced an energy awareness campaign to encourage staff to switch off appliances and become energy efficient. These improvements could net the company savings of up to £1,000 over the year.
